Wedding Trends - The City Never Sleeps
With purse strings feeling a little more strained over the last year or so (Brexit, Lockdown… the list against us is endless), couples are looking closer to home for their wedding. Micro weddings and pub themed receptions are rising in popularity, with more leases being given out to smaller venues, such as restaurants, than ever. So you can have your wedding breakfast in your local haunt - what could be more personal to you? I think this is a trend bound to continue after lockdown is done, with making your day more personal and filled with thankfulness, to both your loved ones, and to the local places you’ve missed, but also continue live and thrive in. Supporting those small businesses will mean more than ever too, so there’s no ‘compromise’ here. Everyone, and especially you, win!
So what does that mean in terms of flowers? Well, with less money spent on headcount and renting out complete venues for whole weekends, you can spend more money on decorations, little details and adding a more personal touch to your day and enhancing the experience for your guests. As well as flowers, think signature cocktails, balloons, games, lavish food displays and meaningful favours. Not to mention all your guests can easily get home after the night in over.
There’s a lot of various options of venue when you look at a city instead of the countryside. From swimming pools, to derelict buildings, to banks and town halls. You can really find something that fits your dream into entirely. Opting for more industrial environments, flowers can bring in a theme of softness, breaking up harsh lines and stark colours, or they can keep up that contemporary and chic look. They can also brighten up a blank canvas (no you don’t have to settle for a barn in a field if you really want your say over your day), really giving you the space to do exactly what you want, and make your photographs so romantic.
Like Ellie and Rowan’s wedding earlier this year, the walk between wedding and reception is one of my favourite moments from city based weddings, really taking in the landscape but still making it all about your time together. The city environment can also add an edge to your images if you aren’t necessarily a country loving duo, like with Sophie and Gareth’s wedding last winter.
Below are some of my favourite inspiration shots for a city wedding, hopefully it might inspire you if you’ve had to change your 2020 wedding plans, or if you are just looking for something a little different!
