Wedding Trends - Eat, Drink and Be Married
Over the past few weeks, we have covered all the main trends that are hitting our nuptials in the next year, however, there are a lot of little trends that all work together to give you a wedding that’s bang on fashion too. I try to focus on ones that feature flowers - naturally - but there are so many other blog out there if you’re looking for what dresses might be in style and what venues might rock your world. Today, I thought I would try and tackle all the smaller ‘on trend’ bits and bobs that create a wedding reception with impact, and how to use your flowers in a way that might not be expected, but still wonderful.
LONG BANQUET TABLES - Circular tables have been in favour for many years now, seemingly the shape of choice when it comes to facilitating conversation and fitting in all your loved ones. However, people are leaving them in the past for a more impactful long banquet style way of seating their guests. Perfect for outdoor weddings and venues which have gloriously high ceilings. Imagine entering your wedding breakfast and just seeing rows and rows of food and wine glasses raised for you - how decadent! Place your food down the middle for that same family-style vibe, and see your friends chat with joy. They also work as the perfect blank canvases for any kind of decoration you might want. Whether its candles, little vessels to hold many flowers, bigger vase arrangements or a long runner of foliage to accentuate the extraordinary length - the possibilities really are endless.
FLOWERS IN FOOD - We all know the Wedding cakes which have fresh flowers on, it’s been a constant wedding feature since the origins of the wedding cake itself. But have you thought about some other ways to include a floral food theme? Whether its edible flowers as the finishing touch to your meal or frozen within ice cubes to add to your drinks, it’s the perfect finishing touch to add a pop of colour to your day. Getting married on a hot summer day? Why not give each guest a floral ice lolly to cool down with.
FINDING YOUR SEAT - Mix up your seating plan by incorporating flowers or plants into the display. It helps draw all the elements of the day together and carry your theme - it also makes it unmissable for those not so visual guests, they won’t be able to miss it! You could even combine the favours for your guests and their seat - how about small succulents for everyone to take home, or packets of seeds with their seating deets on them? So cute, so chic, so treeeeendy.
PLACE SETTINGS - And the perfect way follow up to the green-fingered table plan? A place setting with a floral theme. Maybe a single flower, leaf or sprig of something or another would make the sweetest ‘ello to the table. Lots of couples opt for something scented to bring a stunning perfume to remember their day with - think rosemary or lavender for this subtle aroma. One of my couples for an autumn foliage-themed wedding next year are adorning each place setting with a singular fern leaf to make a visual impact - and I LOVE IT.
A FLORAL WELCOME - Start your guests experience from the arrival with a big impactful entrance. Flower arches, meadow adorned walkways, urns, crate displays and floral signs are all great options (and perfectly fit in to our wedding trend post from last week). This maximalism trend is going nowhere post lockdown, and the images of it last week and below make me weak at the knees. Take your individualism to the next level and just have some fun with it.
TOP TABLE MASTERPIECES - And finally, it’s easy to get lost within all these other details, but if you' want your guests to focus on one thing, its you and your day of commitment, love and marriage. Draw that attention back to what matters with a top table masterpiece. Traditionally, couples would have long and low arrangements to sit in front of you, or garlands running across the front of the table, but you can be more imaginative. Social sites are full of floral neon lit backdrops, moon gates and big floor floral pieces - dream big brides and grooms!
