Church Flowers That Are Anything But Traditional
It can be a tricky subject for the traditional bride and groom - how to jazz up your church for your big day. Usually the local parish and the church you might have grown up in are stunning on their own, but you just want to add a bit more of YOU into the space. There are lots of classic ways couples have incorporated flowers into the nuptials of their weddings, but some are just a little, shall we say, old fashioned? Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but today I’m going to show how we can pull those traditional ideas into the 21st century. You might have seen, even the royal weddings of late have turned the upmost of historic buildings into wonderlands, incorporating trees and entrances that take your breath away!
A word of caution! Many churches will have their own florist or floral team they will want you to use, and won’t want you to bring in flowers from elsewhere. That’s okay! They know the space well and can often talk your ideas and wants into consideration. Just have the conversation with your venue as early as possible, as awkward as it might be, it’ll be beneficial for you down the road.
A great thing about church spaces is there’s usually lots of options and opportunity for you to get creative. Have a good look around for ledges, for pew ends, for pedestals, the altar space and even the doors, they are all places you can add flowers to. Don’t forget about the outside - it’s a great way to make a big entrance for your guests, and if your church doesn’t want you to bring a florist inside, they might allow you to really add that wow factor to the exterior! Milk urns, pedestals, big arch installations, trees… the list goes on and on.
See the mood board below of some of my favourite church flowers - I hope it gives you some inspiration of how to use the traditional part of your day into a show-stopping moment!
