WEDDING TRENDS 2022

I know, I know, I can you all shouting - ‘It’s 3 months into the year Hannah, isn’t this a little late?!’

But before you click off or elsewhere, like with trends in fashion, home life, hobbies etc etc, no one gives them an end date. Trends can shift and change but still at the heart of them, be inspirational beyond December 2022, if you want them to be. It’s always been, and will always be, your day, and so you should, and can, do it your way.

This is a combination of what I’ve seen popping up a lot across blogs, magazines as well as what my couples are asking for and enquiring about a lot. I’m no trend forecaster! Just fanatical about Weddings in every shape, form and style.

BOWS
From hair to shoes, and of course, the dress, bows are having their time to shine. With a hint of regency, and a big dose of style, there’s reportedly been a 51% increase in searches for bow gowns for Bride’s to adorn on their day, and a 114% increase in searches for bridal or bridesmaid bow accessories. Safe to say, we’ll be seeing a lot of this trend across upcoming Weddings, from the fashion to the table - maybe even the cake?!

A LOVE FOR COLOUR
There’s few more aspects of an initial email from a newly engaged couple that make my heart SOAR, than when I read that they are not afraid of injecting colour into their flowers. Whether it’s the tropical brights that remind a couple of their destination meeting spot, or a textured seasonal inspired muted palette, it seems couples are moving away from the classic white and green palette. I have found couples gravitating towards a braver variety of flowers and textures too (more of this later…), and it’s exciting to get to play and dream more with Brides & Grooms.

THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME
Like with Steph & Dan’s Wedding (see the previous blog post to this for all the details of their glorious day), we’re seeing a big shift to more home grown weddings. Maybe it’s a knock on affect of feeling a little disjointed from the comforts and safety of family over the last two years, but backyard bash’s are all the rage come 2022. While back-garden weddings involve a higher planning workload and limit you to the UK warmer seasons, they also provide an opportunity to host your wedding day in a personal place that serves as a completely unique venue for your guests, have greater control over the look and feel of the day, and - neighbours pending! - go on partying as long as you like!

SUSTAINABLE AND REUSABLE CHOICES
Sustainable has been the biggest buzz word when it has come to weddings and other events alike over the last few years, and long may it continue. We’re proud here at Lily and Liz to say that we are now 99% sustainable when it comes to creating small and large scale floral masterpieces, with a focus on giving our planet, that supplies us with the flowers and fauna we use, a fighting chance to keep on keeping on.
Another thing I personally love to hear from couples is a shift to make their flowers go further and impact their day from start to finish. From making arrangements that can work from aisle to tables, or greet guests as they enter their ceremony as well as their reception, and even from reusing bouquets as vase displays, there are so many options to make your money go further. Why not make your flowers a focal point from beginning to end? We’re all for it!

DRIED ACCENTS
I personally have seen a huge rise in requests for a mixture of fresh and dried flowers and foliage in weddings over the last year. Not only do they bring a gorgeous injection of colour and texture to your arrangements, they can be kept as a reminder for years to come! The earthy wild trend is one that never dies and is revived year on year, this is a new beautiful way and I can’t see it going anywhere anytime soon.
