Real Weddings - Dom & Lauren

Good morning! How’s everyone doing? How’s everyone adjusting?
I’ve been thinking about the new normal for weddings, and how this year may change the face of celebrations for years to come. It’s a scary time to be in the wedding industry, with it’s lack of direction and clear guidelines. With all our weddings and events either being cancelled or postponed till next year, it’s been stressful to stay afloat and to stay motivated. I have been one of the lucky ones, and 2021 looks busier and brighter than ever, and I couldn’t be more grateful for all my couples who have stuck by me and supported me and my work, and kept the faith in their dream as well as mine. I’ve been fortunate that in this time I was able to step back and think about what I enjoy doing outside of flowers (note: this blog was born), and I’ve met some amazing wedding suppliers who have quickly become friends. The next step might be unknown and scary, but I’m starting to feel more ‘okay’ about the future. I want to give a shout out to the amazing team at Love My Dress blog, who have tirelessly and fiercely fought for clarity from the Government for their friends, couples and colleagues, and they are doing an amazing job. If you want to read more about that, then check out their website and Instagram for up to date campaigns and information.

Anyway, today I wanted to revisit another amazing wedding to be a part of, and such an awesome couple to know - Dom & Lauren. They came to me through a mutual friend who’s wedding I also provided the flowers for, and myself and Lauren met up a few times in the lead up to their day in a cafe in Parsons Green, discussing their wedding, their story and of course, their flowers, over eggs and coffee - my favourite way to plan.

They decided quite early on, on a classic and timeless colour scheme of white and green, and over time we decided to also add in a blue tone to Lauren’s Bridal Bouquet, to offset her stunning Bridesmaids dresses. It was filled to the brim with different foliages, including ruscus, eucalyptus and mimosa, and paired with white flowers including Roses, Scabiosa, Astrantia, Veronica and Waxflower to bring a wonderful wild texture. We then added a statement blue hydrangea for impact, and paired with the flowing ribbons in shades of blues, creams and whites, it made for a gorgeous bouquet with a ton of movement. It worked so perfectly with her bardot-style 2 piece from Grace Loves Lace, and her fierce pop of red lipstick - OBSESSED.

For the beautiful Bridesmaids, as they were already adorned with a dusky blue dress, we paired back the bouquets to just a wild mix of white Roses, Scabiosa, Astrantia and Veronica with a healthy dose of the beautiful foliages I sourced from Covent Garden Flower Market. Bound with cream ribbons, it pulled the whole look together. With the Groom, we decided a simply white Rose and foliage bound in ribbon would be the perfect addition to his look, and Dom wore it extremely well. For the rest of the Groomsmen and family, I gathered together some of the best sprigs of all the foliages to just add a splash of texture and nature to their outfits. I think you’ll agree they make a very fashionable wedding party!

Dom and Lauren decided to do their venue flowers themselves, and with the help of their loved ones, they made a gorgeous mix of foliage and flowers in various cool tones around the Mile End Art Pavilion and transformed it into a gorgeous wedding space. At the last minute, we decided that the Aisle could do with a few focal features, and so I put together 3 hoops filled with an asymmetric foliage feature which hung off the pillars at the front of the venue. For the delicious cake, I kept a few hydrangeas and other pieces back to tie it back in with the venue and the party. It all came together so beautifully, and from what I hear, really made the party go off with a bang!

I love it when I meet couples and you just ‘click’, and that’s what happened with Dom and Lauren. They were so friendly, open and creative, and honestly a dream of a couple to work with. I feel so lucky I got the job of their wedding flowers, and it’s so good to occasionally bump into them at gatherings and see just how happy and in love they are. I’ll leave you with the lovely recommendation from the newlyweds themselves, and if you are looking for a wedding florist and are inspired by Dom and Lauren, drop me a hello!

‘We got married in September 2019 and Hannah did such a wonderful job with our flowers! She listened to our ideas and really helped us create bouquets and button-holes that worked really well with our colours and general vibe and they were so beautiful! Hannah was really easy to talk to and connect with - we asked for a few last minute extras and she was really flexible and managed to get everything we wanted made in time. We had so many comments on how beautiful our flowers were and two of our friends who were at the wedding have now booked Hannah for their weddings in 2020! We would highly recommend Hannah!’

Thank you, D&L, your wedding is one I’ll always remember and treasure - cheers to the future!
